The AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D might be the best upgrade for PC gamers with old AM4 systems

When AMD debuted the AM4 platform for their then-new Ryzen series of processors, I don’t think too many people—AMD included—would foresee the platform surviving till 2024. Yet, not only is AM4 still alive and kicking, AMD is even releasing not one, not two but FOUR new processors for the AM4 platforms seven years since AM4 motherboards first became available.

AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D

At the very top of these four new processors is the AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D, which may just be the new option of choice for anyone wanting to upgrade their aging Ryzen processor to give their gaming PC a new lease of life. It is for the most part identical to the previous Ryzen 7 5800X3D that kicked off AMD’s 3D V-cache gaming processor craze back in 2022, except this time clocked a little lower. Specifically, the eight core, 16-thread CPU now has a base clock of 3.0GHz with boosts of up to 4.1GHz, 400MHz slower across the board.

Other than that though, it’s very much the same Zen 3 processor with 3D V-cache, offering 96MB of L3 cache in total. The Ryzen 7 5700X3D also shares the same 105W TDP as the Ryzen 7 5800X3D, along with support for DDR4-3200 memory and won’t be overclockable too.

AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D

According to AMD, the Ryzen 7 5700X3D will be able to offer the same kind of best-in-class gaming performance that the original Ryzen 7 5800X3D was able to do, with up to 13% faster performance in gaming workloads compared to the Intel Core i5-13600K. There’s no local pricing or availability details just yet, but AMD has stated that the Ryzen 7 5700X3D will come with a recommended retail price of USD249 (~RM1,158.97).

AMD Ryzen 7 5700

That’s not the only new AM4 processor from AMD though. There’s also the Ryzen 7 5700, a non-X variant of the Ryzen 7 5700X that has actually been around for sometime now, albeit only in prebuilt systems. With this launch AMD is basically allowing regular users to purchase them in a box, complete with a Wraith Spire stock cooler. The eight-core, 16-thread CPU has a 3.7GHz base clock with boosts to 4.6GHz, 20MB of total cache and a 65W TDP. It comes with a recommended retail price of USD175 (~RM814.54).

AMD Ryzen 5 5600GT, Ryzen 5 5500GT

Then there’s also a pair of Zen 3 APUs for AM4, the Ryzen 5 5600GT and the Ryzen 5 5500GT. Both of these are 65W processors with 19MB of total cache and comes with Radeon Vega 7 integrated graphics, though the exact iGPU frequencies aren’t fully clear. The processors themselves are six-core, 12-thread CPUs with a 3.6GHz base clock and boosts of up to 4.4GHz for the Ryzen 5 5500GT and up to 4.6GHz for the Ryzen 5 5600GT. They’re priced at USD125 (~RM581.81) and USD140 (~RM651.63) respectively, and comes with the Wraith Stealth cooler in the box.
