Samsung has just announced two collaborations that will be prominently on stage during the upcoming CES 2024. First, the company has just signed a collaboration with Tesla for service integration, which is expected to happen in the next few months. Secondly, Samsung and Hyundai is also creating a collaboration for smart home and connected cars from the car brand. Customers from the two car brands will be able to see statuses and monitor their products directly from the Samsung SmartThings app soon.
The collaboration marks a beginning for the three companies as Samsung will be connecting directly to Tesla and Hyundai products, which includes EVs, and have real-time monitoring on Samsung devices.
Tesla customers can now monitor directly with Samsung devices
The key benefit of the collaboration with Tesla will be the direct monitoring of Tesla products via the SmartThings app on Samsung devices. The app can then display information relating to users’ energy production, storage and usage. The collaboration will see the products under Tesla like the Powerwall home battery, Solar Inverter, and Wall Connector charging solutions as well as Tesla Electric Vehicles (EVs) connect to the SmartThings Energy app on Samsung devices.
Tesla customers can also prepare themselves for power disruptions and outages through SmartThings Energy’s ability to sync with the Tesla app’s Powerwall “Storm Watch” function. This will allow them to be alerted of extreme weather events via the SmartThings ecosystem – which includes connected Samsung TVs and mobiles.
The Tesla and Samsung service integration is currently in development and is targeting a second-quarter 2024 launch window.
Hyundai Motor Group customers can enjoy “Car-to-Home” services soon
For the Hyundai Motor Group, the company intends to develop “Home-to-Car” and “Car-to-Home” services, as well as an integrated home energy management service. The services will allow connection between the vehicle infotainment system and the smart home for remote control in both directions.
Users can, for example, control smart air-conditioning, open/close windows and check charging statuses remotely for the car and the home. The integration will also allow users to monitor the energy consumption of the smart home and the EVs.
Samsung is working closely with HARMAN, a wholly owned subsidiary of Samsung Electronics to further strengthen the Car-to-Home services. HARMAN’s “Ready Upgrade” is a digital cockpit package product that allows hardware and software upgrades. With Ready Upgrade, users will be able to install SmartThings functions to utilize various Car-to-Home services.
