Even though the growth of the electric vehicle charging infrastructure in Malaysia is moving at a rather slow pace, you would still see a new Charge Point Operator (CPO) appearing in the market from time to time. Among the latest that we have just discovered is GoCharge.

Who is GoCharge?

We first noticed GoCharge’s existence when we stumbled upon several Autel AC chargers being installed at Subang Parade. What made the GoCharge chargers rather interesting is the fact that they utilise the ParkEasy app (and automated parking barriers) instead of running on an in-house or self-branded platform.

The label next to these chargers didn’t provide much clue regarding the people behind GoCharge though. While there is a customer service e-mail address written on the label, its domain leads us to a non-functioning website.

After some searching, we were eventually able to pinpoint the identity of GoCharge which is GMA Resources Sdn. Bhd who was involved in the energy sector for the past three decades. As it turned out, GMA signed an agreement with the owner of Subang Parade, Hektar REIT last year.

GoCharge deployments are taking place in Johor, Kedah, Melaka, and Selangor

GoCharge chargers at Subang Parade were still cordoned off when we visited them yesterday.

Through the agreement, GMA is not only responsible for the rollout of EV chargers at Subang Parade but also at five other shopping malls that are under Hektar REIT’s name. Here’s the full list:

  • Central Square Sungai Petani, Kedah – 2 bays
  • Kulim Central, Kedah – 2 bays
  • Mahkota Parade, Melaka – 3 bays
  • Segamat Central Mall, Johor – 1 bay
  • Subang Parade, Selangor – 3 bays
  • Wetex Parade Muar, Johor – 2 bays

Altogether, you are looking at a total of 13 EV charging bays across all 6 locations. All of them have already appeared on the ParkEasy app which also said that all these locations have been equipped with 22kW AC chargers.

GoCharge charging fee is similar to Shell Recharge chargers

In terms of charging fees, it costs RM1 (1.00 credits) per kWh to utilise these AC chargers. If you don’t leave the charging bay after your EV has finished charging, you will also incur an idling fee of RM1 for every 30 minutes.

Not to forget, you also have to pay a confirmation fee of RM5 (5.00 credits) to ParkEasy. This pricing structure is essentially similar to what ParkEasy has imposed at Shell Recharge locations since last November.

However, GoCharge chargers are still being labelled as “Coming Soon” on the ParkEasy app for now even though they might seem ready to serve customers. So, stay tuned as we’ll keep you posted once we hear more from the CPO.
