RedMagic is bringing in their next generation flagship gaming smartphone to Malaysia, just over a month after it debuted in China. The RedMagic 9 Pro is set to arrive on our shores on New Year’s Day, and boasts not just the most powerful hardware under the hood, but also a fully flat industrial design.

RedMagic 9 Pro Malaysia pricing and availability

According to RedMagic, the RedMagic 9 Pro will be available for purchase from 1 January 2024 onwards. As part of the launch promotion, you’ll be able to get it with a RM750 discount from 1 January till 8 January, exclusively on their official Shopee store. Here’s how much it’s priced at, along with its early bird sale price:

  • RedMagic 9 Pro, 12GB RAM, 256GB storage – RM3,699 RM2,949
  • RedMagic 9 Pro, 16GB RAM, 512GB storage – RM4,499 RM3,749

RedMagic 9 Pro specs

If you’re looking for a smartphone that’s certainly different from the rest, the RedMagic 9 Pro is very much up your alley. You’ll find a futuristic looking, almost cyberpunk-like design with RGB lighting as well as a completely flat rear panel; no camera bumps here at all. It’s display meanwhile is a 6.8-inch AMOLED display using a BOE Q9+ panel pushing a 2,480 x 1,116p resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, a 960Hz touch sampling rate, a peak brightness of 1,600nits, full coverage of the DCI-P3 colour gamut and 2,160Hz PWM dimming. Most notably you won’t find a punch hole cut out either, with a bezelless display using an under-display selfie camera.

Under the hood is of course the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, with up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage; Malaysians however won’t be able to get the RedMagic 9 Pro+ with its massive 24GB of RAM and 1TB of storage as it remains China-only. Cooling all of that though is a new ICE 13 cooling system that even as its own cooling fan below the rear cameras, spinning at 22,000RPM. The RedMagic 9 Pro will come with Android 14 out of the box, skinned with RedMagic OS9 over it along with its own suite of gaming-focused software tools.

As for its cameras, tucked below the flat camera island on the back are a pair of 50MP rear cameras: a main 50MP camera using the Samsung GN5 sensor featuring optical image stabilisation and a 7P lens alongside a 50MP ultrawide angle camera using the Samsung JN1 sensor with optimised distortion correction. The under-display selfie camera meanwhile is a 16MP shooter.

Other features of note include a 6,500mAh battery that RedMagic boasts will last for up to 56hours and comes with 80W fast charging, stereo speakers, an IR blaster and touch shoulder buttons on the side. You’ll also get support for 5G, NFC, WiFI 7 and Bluetooth 5.3 wireless connectivity, and there’s even a 3.5mm headphone jack.
