With the Samsung Galaxy S24 series launch coming out soon – more information of what we can expect from the imaging part of the phone is now coming to light online. From the multiple reports we are seeing, we can expect that there will probably be ups and downs for the camera situation for Samsung’s flagship series for 2024.
As a recap, we are expecting the Samsung Galaxy S24, S24+ and S24 Ultra to be launched within the next couple of months and we should be seeing the phones go on sale by the end of Q1 of next year.
For the camera situation for the S24 series, we are seeing two reports online. The first is that Samsung will be re-using the same sensor from the Galaxy S23 in the Galaxy 24 and S24+. The info comes from Revegnus on X.
Samsung to reuse sensors for S23/S23+
The Galaxy S23 and S23+ uses Samsung’s ISOCELL GN3 sensor – a 50MP 1/1.56-inch optical format with 1.0µm pre-binned pixels. The same leaker states that the same sensor will be used in next year’s Galaxy S25/S25+ as well. Originally, the leaker stated that the S24/S24+ will be the last year of reruns as Samsung may be using Sony sensors for the 2025 models, but they posted that the info was wrong, and Samsung will reuse the sensors for the next couple of years instead.
On one hand, the 50MP is of higher resolution and produces slightly better images than the GN5 sensor used in the Galaxy S22. On the other hand, this will be the third time that Samsung will be using this sensor – it is also used in the Galaxy S23 FE.
Samsung AI-powered imaging with S24 Ultra
For the chart topping model, we would see some interesting AI-powered imaging with the 200MP sensor on the Galaxy S23 Ultra. Reports say that Samsung will be optimizing the images, especially night-mode, on the Ultra model using AI. This is made possible thanks to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip powering the phone.
We should see come AI-assisted image processing using Photo Remaster, and a new object recognition mode – up to 12 kinds of objects will be recognized and using AI, the Galaxy S24 will optimize images taken with the object. This is reported by Ice Universe on X.
We are already expecting some unique features from the 200MP sensors, such as the ICOCELL Zoom Anyplace feature, on the Galaxy S24 Ultra.
We should see more information on the 2024 Galaxy S models soon enough as we approach the Samsung Unpacked event next year. We already know how the phone looks like and what we can expect from the specifications – it is all now down to the small details.
