As indicated earlier, Shell Recharge and ParkEasy are transitioning their EV chargers to kWh-based pricing. After introducing RM1 per kWh rates for its AC charge points, Shell Recharge has started switching to kWh-based rates for its 180kW DC chargers along the North-South Expressway. The move would make charging slightly more affordable for EVs that can’t do 180kW on DC.
New kWh-based pricing for Shell Recharge 180kW DC Chargers
At the time of writing, the charging rates at five EV charging locations at Shell stations have migrated from RM4.00 per minute to RM2.20 per kWh. Here’s the list of kWh-based pricing locations along the North-South Expressway:
- Shell HPC Northbound – Simpang Pulai, Ipoh, Perak
- Shell HPC Northbound – Seremban, Negeri Sembilan
- Shell HPC Northbound – Pagoh, Johor
- Shell HPC Southbound – Tapah, Perak
- Shell HPC Southbound – Seremban, Negeri Sembilan
Take note that there’s a confirmation fee of RM5.00 which is charged on top of the charging session. After charging is completed, Shell Recharge and ParkEasy are also charging an idle of RM8.00 every 15 minutes if you do not leave the charging bay. You have a 15-minute grace period before the idle fee is charged.
Similar to before, you’ll have to ensure that your ParkEasy app has a minimum balance of RM200 (200 credits) before you can reserve the Shell HPC charging bay. You are given 10 minutes to activate the bays by lowering the parking barrier after confirmation is made. To prevent hoggers and to avoid idling fees, you are required to raise the parking barrier once you leave the spot.
Shell Recharge Tangkak and Skudai are still priced based on time
There are two Shell Recharge DC charging locations that are still charging based on time. The 180kW DC charger at Tangkak, Johor (Southbound) is still charging RM4 per minute while the 120kW DC charger at Skudai, Johor is priced at RM2.80 per minute. Both chargers also require a confirmation fee of RM4.00 and a minimum ParkEasy balance of RM200.
Hopefully, these remaining DC chargers will soon switch to kWh-based pricing so that it would be more feasible for EVs that can’t take advantage of the high DC charging rate. In case you missed it, Shell Recharge’s 60kW DC charger at Pavilion KL is now available and it is priced at RM1.50 per kWh.
To activate Shell Recharge EV chargers in Malaysia, you’ll have to use the ParkEasy app which is available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
