The government wants to give you up to RM400 for free – if you buy a new energy-efficient refrigerator or air conditioner. This is part of the government’s Sustainability Achieved Via Energy Efficiency (SAVE) 4.0, designed to pay rebates to domestic consumers who buy all new energy-efficient refrigerators and air conditioners. The program is a continuation of the SAVE 3.0 program that was launched in 2022

The rebate is being given out by the Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) Malaysia, an agency under the government of Malaysia. The rebate is only being given out for purchases of appliances with 4-star or 5-star energy efficiency labels from the Energy Commission. A total of RM 50 million has been allocated for this initiative under the Electricity Supplies Industry Trust Account.

Program SAVE 4.0 telah dilancarkan oleh YB Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, Menteri Sumber Asli, Alam Sekitar dan Perubahan Iklim (NRECC) di tapak reruai NRECC di Program Setahun Bersama Kerajaan MADANI di Pekarangan Stadium Bukit Jalil hari ini.

From the official website of SAVE 4.0, the objectives of the program are to:

  • Increase the total number of five (5) and four (4) star energy-efficient electrical appliances and energy-efficient appliances in the market; and
  • Increase public awareness to encourage them to buy energy-efficient appliances that will save consumer’s electricity consumption, especially for domestic consumers.

Who is eligible?

To qualify for the rebate, the applicant must be:

  • Malaysian citizens
  • Users / Owners of Registered Electrical Account (domestic) in electrical utility companies such as TNB, Sabah Electricity Sdn. Bhd. (SESB), Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) dan Nur Power Sdn. Bhd
  • The purchase of energy-efficiency electrical appliances with 4 and 5-star labels in December 2023 – December 2024
  • One (1) electricity bill account can only apply for one (1) e-rebate for each electrical appliance stated & is on a first-come, first-served basis.

According to SEDA, the program is set to benefit 250,000 households around Malaysia. Interested applicants can apply for the rebate between December 2023 and December 2024.

Where can you claim for SAVE 4.0?

Conveniently enough, the rebate can be redeemed via several channels – via retailers, PGMall, Youbeli, TikTok Shop, Shopee and Lazada.
