Astro’s streaming service sooka has announced an updated list of subscription packages for customers looking to stream content such as EPL and live entertainment on their smartphones or smart TV. On top of the free tier where customers can watch live previews of sports and entertainment content, sooka customers can now subscribe to monthly packages for multiple screens, starting from RM 14.90 a month at HD resolutions.
“As demand for flexible online streaming continues its upward trajectory, sooka aims to deliver highly tailored content, combining live and on-demand shows that will resonate with consumers across all target markets. Sooka’s online active monthly users (MAU) have risen 80% so far this year, and our VIP base grew 55% quarter on quarter, driven by a much-increased content library and enhanced targeted marketing. To date there are 1.5 million registered users on sooka, 60% of whom access sooka on mobile, we are confident that sooka’s new packs and pricing will set this great service on a higher growth trajectory in 2024.”
Euan Smith, Group Chief Executive Officer of Astro
The streaming service now offers four different packages aimed at different target markets. The cheapest package is RM 14.90 a month, designed for a single screen with up to 720p HD resolution. For those looking to watch entertainment shows as well as Liga Malaysia matches, the pack is RM 28.90 a month for two devices at HD resolution. International sports fans can opt for the All Sports & Entertainment pack for RM 34.90 a month, again for two HD devices. Lastly, the ultimate pack costs RM 49.90 a month for up to three devices, which includes one TV at Full HD resolution.
There is also a day pass where everything is unlocked for only RM 12.90. All the packages are on top of the free channels that is available to be streamed by anybody right now.
When asked later, Smith says that sooka stands out versus all the other premium as it is the only streaming service that offers live sports such as the Premier League, F1 and the BMF world tour. He added that sooka allows content to be watched more flexibly – either on the small screen on the mobile or the TV.
The brand is also happy to work with partners to distribute content that is already on sooka’s library, which it is building as more content is made available by partner producers as well as in-house content according to Smith. This includes fast channels and content that covers kids, lifestyle and even Bollywood content.
As a special bonus to sooka fans, the brand held a meet and greet with legendary footballer Steve Bruce at the launch event.
