Redtone Digital Berhad (Redtone) has signed an authorised reseller agreement with SpaceX to provide Starlink satellite broadband services across Malaysia. This will enable Redtone to deploy Starlink broadband services to consumers in remote locations as well as locations with geographical and environmental constraints.
Redtone said it is an integrated telecommunications and digital infrastructure services provider company with a team of more than 150 dedicated engineers across Malaysia. Besides building and operating telecommunication towers, the company is also the first to launch WiMAX in East Malaysia and it is among 8 companies with 2600MHz spectrum assignments. Redtone has also assisted the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) with the installation of the first Starlink satellite broadband kit at UiTM Kuala Pilah.
According to Redtone’s CEO Lau Bik Soon, the company’s strength as a network integrator will enable it to offer seamless satellite-based services to government and enterprise customers. He added that they are targeting sectors which are showing increasing reliance on satellite services such as oil and gas, telecommunications, shipping and maritime, financial services and plantations. Lau said these sectors are expected to be a significant driver of satellite market growth in the country and will enhance the company’s profitability.
Redtone offers Starlink service with Zero hardware cost and 24/7 support
According to Redtone’s Starlink page, they offer a range of enterprise-grade Satellite Managed Internet Services across Malaysia. Under the partnership, they offer clients a fully managed service inclusive of monthly subscription plans, a dedicated accounts manager, professional engineering services and seamless installation.
What’s interesting is that it offers a monthly subscription model with zero hardware cost which eliminates the requirement for substantial upfront capital expenses. Customers will be assigned a dedicated manager who will help to offer solutions and network design advice. In addition, they will also get access to Redtone Customer Support which is reachable through phone, email and online channels.
At the moment, Starlink’s Business plans start from RM571/month for unlimited standard data with 40GB of priority data and it goes all the way up to RM5,894/month which comes with 6TB of priority data. Business users can expect download speeds between 40Mbps to 220Mbps, upload speeds between 8Mbps to 25Mps, and a latency of 25-60ms.
The standard Starlink hardware costs RM2,800 while the Flat High-Performance kit costs RM11,613.
