Now that Dbrand is suing Casetify for copyright infringement, Dbrand shared that they found another victim in the ongoing saga of the case makers. It was revealed that iFixit x-ray images are being used for one of Casetify’s range of cases.
Based on a thread on X (formerly known as Twitter), Dbrand unearthed that Casetify used the images from iFixit for their X-ray Case line without permission. The product line, which has been removed from Casetify’s website, uses x-rayed images of phone internals as the external graphic design. iFixit worked with Creative Electron to capture the x-ray image of an iPhone X for its website.
iFixit responded to the post with a post of their own, asking why Casetify is not investing their profits into supporting Right to Repair or wheelchair advocacy instead.
At the same time, Casetify published a statement on its X account, saying that they are currently investigating the copyright allegation by dbrand, as well as a DDOS attack that apparently disrupted the brand’s website when the allegation surfaced. It confirmed that all customer information is safe for now.
Dbrand is currently pursuing a federal lawsuit in Canada, with the company seeking eight figures in damages from Casetify.
