The first phone to have the newly launched Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 is out. The Honor 100 and the 100 Pro are the company’s latest smartphones which was just launched yesterday. The phone features some interesting internals and a decisive-looking camera module design.
Honor 100 Rundown
As stated, the Honor 100 uses Qualcomm’s latest mid-range smartphone, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3. The chip features a CPU construction that is built on TSMC’s 4nm process and uses one Cortex-A715 core that goes up to 3.15 GHz, three more at 2.4 GHz, and four Cortex-A510 units for efficiency at 1.8 GHz making a total of eight cores. The Adreno 740 GPU in the new SoC is 50% more powerful than the 7 Gen 1 in HDR gaming as well.
The phone itself has a 6.7-inch OLED display with a 1220p resolution and an under-screen fingerprint scanner. What makes this phone series different from other Honor phones is the inclusion of the RF C1 chip. This chip, custom-made by Honor, can help determine the best cell tower to connect to for calls. It even can automatically switch to WiFi connectivity when available so that the connection remains stable for clear calls and smooth internet connections.
At the back, there are two cameras instead of three sensors seen on many other midrange phones. The main sensor is a 50MP camera with the Sony IMX906 sensor and f/1.95 aperture lens while the second camera is a 12MP ultra-wide camera. For the selfie unit, Honor picked another 50MP unit with a f/2.4 aperture lens.
Powering everything is a 5,000mAh battery that can be charged with the included Honor Supercharge 100W charging brick, which is a nice change when compared to other brands that omit the charging brick altogether these days.
Honor 100 Pro Features
Meanwhile the Honor 100 Pro is an up-rated version of the base model, with a few key differences. For one, the SoC in the phone is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, the same SoC seen in other flagship phones in the market. It also has a slightly bigger OLED screen, measuring 6.78 inches.
Imaging is handled by the same two cameras from the base Honor 100, with the addition of a third 32MP zoom camera that the company says can achieve up to “50x zoom”. Honor says that it is a telephoto zoom camera, but upon closer inspection, there doesn’t seem to be any periscope mechanism used to do any optical zooming.
The Honor 100 Pro shares the same battery capacity and wired charger as the Honor 100 but adds 66W wireless charging that can fill up the battery from empty to full in 42 minutes. The phone also supports reverse wireless charging.
Honor 100 and 100 Pro Design, colour and price
As you can see, the design of the Honor 100 series is a bit unique, especially with the oval look on the 100 Pro and the cut-off circle with the 100.
There are four colour options for the 100 and the 100 Pro – Black, White, Blue, or Purple with minor shade variances between the base and Pro models.
