Peugeot’s parent company, Stellantis is taking over the French automaker’s sales and distribution in Malaysia. This was announced by the Chief Operating Officer for ASEAN & General Distributors at Stellantis, Daniel Gonzalez.
The sales and distribution of Peugeot vehicles are currently handled by Bermaz Auto through its subsidiary Bermaz Auto Alliance (BAA). The company has been in charge of Peugeot in Malaysia since December 2020 after taking over the responsibility from Naza.
The new National Sales Company will be ready in 2024
However, the change will not take place immediately though. This is because Stellantis still has to set up a new National Sales Company (NSC) to manage Peugeot activities in Malaysia.
This is expected to be completed within the first quarter of 2024. Despite that, Stellantis has already chosen its current Head of Aftersales for ASEAN & General Distributors, Jamie Francis Morais to lead the new Malaysia NSC.
Hence, things will generally remain as it is for the time being. Both Stellantis and BAA have assured that vehicle service, parts, warranty, and aftersales services for Peugeot vehicles in Malaysia will not be interrupted by the new direction.
According to Peugeot Malaysia’s website, the French automaker currently offers four models in our market including the 2008, 3008, and 5008 crossover SUVs. Also available in Malaysia at the moment is the Landtrek pickup truck.
Just last week, Daniel revealed through a media interview that Stellantis already planning to release several new Peugeot models into our market in 2024. They include the E-2008 fully electric SUV, the all-new 408 crossover and the Completely Knocked-Down (CKD) variant of Landtrek with all three of them will be locally assembled in the Stellantis Gurun plant in Kedah.
