Samsung fans usually know when to expect the Korean giant’s next flagship smartphones, with a Galaxy Unpacked event typically in February featuring the latest Samsung Galaxy S-series devices. Next year though things could change, as Samsung is apparently set to hold its Galaxy S24 series launch event in January 2024.
According to South Korean news outlet The Elec, Samsung will be looking towards holding it’s next Galaxy Unpacked event on 17 January 2024. Curiously, this report also suggests that the physical event will be held in San Jose, California—just a short drive away from the Cupertino headquarters of rival company Apple.
Of course, we doubt San Jose is being picked just because it’s near where Apple’s headquarters are. Instead, it seems that Samsung is looking at holding it in California likely due to it being near the Google campus located in Mountain View, also a short drive away from downtown San Jose. We could be seeing more of the Samsung-Google partnership here, with the Galaxy S24 series said to deliver a jump in AI capabilities too.
As for what we can expect, it seems pretty clear that Samsung is retaining its three model approach, with a base model Galaxy S24, a larger Galaxy S24+ and the top-of-the-line Galaxy S24 Ultra. Its a little unclear though what processor will be powering them, with the rumour mill so far hinting at the Galaxy S24 Ultra using the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 globally but the other two devices getting a mix of Exynos and Snapdragon models depending on the region.
The report also suggests that following the 17 January 2024 launch event, pre-orders for the Galaxy S24 series will commence on 25 January with full availability from 30 January onwards. Malaysia is typically in the first wave of global launches, so if this rumour is true we could be able to purchase the new Galaxy S24 series in time for Chinese New Year.
