MarinEV, a brand under Yinson GreenTech (YGT), has unveiled its fully completed Hydroglyder prototype. This is an all-electric crew transfer vessel completed at Ctruk Boat shipward in Melaka and it is expected to make its debut in Singapore soon.
Hydroglyder is one of the world’s most advanced zero-emissions vessels
According to YGT, this is one of the world’s most advanced zero-emissions vessels, made in composite materials, and equipped with hydrofoils. It features a suite of sensors, making it ready for future remote and totally autonomous operations. The Hydroglyder boasts an advanced hydrofoil system which provides better energy efficiency compared to traditional electric vessels of a similar size. The onboard batteries provide to propel the vessel while the flight control system maintains the stability of the craft during foil. YGT says these solutions are expected to reduce operational costs by up to 90%.
The Malaysian-built MarinEV Hydroglyder will be used to provide crew transfer services within the Singapore harbour craft segment. The electric vessel will make its debut in Singapore next year to start its sea trials and aims to contribute to the achievement of the country’s decarbonisation goals. The Hydroglyder will be the first vessel of its kind within the Singapore harbour craft market, providing a more efficient and environmentally friendly alternative to the current crew transfer vessels.
YGT added that the Hydroglyer had won the “Most Promising Maritime Technology Award” at the recent Singapore Normal Innovation Conference in recognition of the vessel’s cutting-edge technology.
MarinEV Hydroglyder key specs and features
The MarinEV Hydroglyer is a crew transfer vessel and it features a 390kW main propulsion with a 15kW tunnel thruster. It is based on an 800V architecture which uses 8x 63kWh Lithium-Ion batteries. The batteries can be swapped in about 6 minutes. Due to the sheer size, cranes will be required to swap the batteries.
The Hydroglyer also supports DC fast charging via a CCS2 at the rear. A full charge via DC charging takes up to 2 hours depending on the battery configuration.
The Hydroglyer has a cruising speed of 20-25 Knots with a top speed of 30 Knots. On a full charge, it has a range of up to 15 Nautical Miles.
This electric vessel can carry two members and up to 12 passengers. To reduce weight and for more sustainable construction, the Hydroglyer uses 3D-printed passenger seats which are ergonomically designed for comfort and ease of cleaning.
The vessel is equipped with an array of sensors with LIDAR which can enable an auto docking feature to allow the vessel to position itself along the berth for crew change and battery swap. It will undergo testing for future remote and fully autonomous operations to reduce the level of crew manning onboard.
