The government has just announced that there will be toll-free days for the upcoming Deepavali celebrations. For two days, highway users around Malaysia will be able to drive through tolls without paying them. This is after discussions with the relevant authorities.
The toll-free initiative will be given to all classes of vehicles at all toll plazas, except for toll plazas located at the borders :
- Plaza Tol Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI)
- Plaza Tol Tanjung Kupang in Johor.
Like previous toll-free initiatives, vehicle owners will still need to tap in and tap-out with their TNG card, SmartTAG or RFID to enjoy the free toll waiver. Unfortunately, there are no post-waiver discounts for motorists to enjoy.
As a reminder, please use the same payment method that you use to enter the highway to exit the highway. So if you tapped in with TnG card, use the TnG gantries to exit the highway to avoid any penalty charges.
When will the free toll period begin?
The two days allotted for the toll-free days are:
- 11 November 2023 (from 12.01 am)
- 12 November 2023 (until 11.59 pm)
Motorists are reminded that the waiver will only apply once users exit the highway.
If you are planning your journey, you can still enjoy the toll waiver if you exit the highway after 12.01 am on 11 November. On the flip side, those who are traveling on 12 November, are reminded to exit the highways before 11.59 pm so that they can enjoy the toll waiver.
Top tip: If you can’t reach the destination before 11:59pm on Sunday night, you can exit at the nearest toll plaza before the deadline and reenter the highway to still enjoy the toll waiver for the first part of the journey.
PLUS has previously shared its recommended travel time advisory for the North-South highway on social media. It is advised to follow the advisory so that your journey back home will be smooth.
For more information, motorists can check traffic status or any incidents on the highways through the official Lembaga Lebuhraya Malaysia (LLM) social media on Facebook or Twitter. There is also a toll-free number at 1-800-88-7752 for motorists to call LLM for information or help while on the road.
