As we end the working day today, a nice notification popped up on our Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra phone. The official update to Android 14 is now available for the Galaxy S23 series in Malaysia. The new update is with One UI 6.0 update, which brings a lot to the table.
The update weighs in at 3GB and features a long list of updates throughout the operating system. Chiefly, Samsung is now rolling out Android 14 to its flagship smartphones. Here are some of the notable new features in the update:
Quick Panel
- New quick panel button layout
- Improved album art display in the notification panel
- You can now sort your notification by time received
Home Screen
- Simplified icons with shorter labels
- “Samsung” and “Galaxy” branding removed from certain app icons
Multitasking
- System will now keep pop-up windows open
Camera App
- Samsung redesigned the Camera App layout
- New custom Camera Widget available on the home screen
- The Scan Document functionality is now enhanced for better document scanning
- A persistent level line will appear on screen (accept Panorama mode) when Gridlines are tuned on.
- New Auto FPS settings for video
- You can finally just swipe up/down (left/right in portrait)
- to switch between front and rear cameras
Gallery
- You can now make quick edits in the Details menu
- Drag and drop with two hands is now possible – touch and hold a photo with one hand, and swipe to the desired album with the other.
- You can now save clipped images as stickers
Studio (Video editor)
- Studio is a new project-based video editor included with One UI 6.0
- It uses timelines to create videos, similar to Adobe Rush or CapCut
- You can add videos, images, subtitles and more, making it a powerful video editor.
Samsung Internet
- You can now play videos in the background when opened with Samsung Internet
Smarter Airplane Mode
- The phone will now remember if you turned on Bluetooth or WiFi the next time airplane mode is used.
Right now the update is out for the Samsung Galaxy S23 series phones. The Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 should be receiving it soon, and other Samsung models should be in the pipeline as well.
