Snapdragon Seamless: A new cross platform way to link multiple devices and OSes together

Aside from just announcing new hardware like Snapdragon X Elite and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, Qualcomm also revealed Snapdragon Seamless, a new cross platform feature that aims to bridge Android, Windows and other Snapdragon-powered devices together and getting these devices to discover and share information with each other as though they were a single integrated system.

According to Qualcomm, the problem stems from the fact that each household has plenty of different digital devices that more often than not don’t play well with each other especially when they’re of different manufacturers. Snapdragon Seamless though is a new multi-vendor technology that allows each device to find each other and connect easier. Qualcomm doesn’t actually see themselves as the people to implement it; rather, they’re the ‘enablers’, letting their partners implement Snapdragon Seamless technology onto their products themselves.

As for what Snapdragon Seamless can do, Qualcomm lists some examples of the potential benefits of this new technology. This includes mice and keyboards being able to work across your PC, smartphones and tablets seamlessly even if they’re all from different manufacturers, while files and whole windows can be dragged and dropped across different devices. Even simple things like your wireless earbuds can switch between your different devices smoother.

“Snapdragon Seamless fundamentally breaks down the barriers between OEMs, devices and operating systems. It’s the only cross-device system to truly put the user first,” – Dino Bekis, Qualcomm VP and GM of wearables and mixed signal solutions

At the moment, Qualcomm says that Snapdragon Seamless will be incorporated into their newest mobile platforms, namely Snapdragon X Elite on the PC side of things as well as Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, their latest flagship mobile platform. It will also be part of their wearable and audio platforms, as well as their XR, automobile and IoT platforms in the future.

Companies that have partnered up with Qualcomm for Snapdragon Seamless include Xiaomi, Honor, Lenovo, Microsoft, Google and Oppo among others. Snapdragon Seamless is set to roll out on device platforms globally as early as later this year.
