Xiaomi will be the first smartphone maker to release a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3-powered smartphone with its upcoming Xiaomi 14 series. This was revealed during the unveiling of Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip and the Xiaomi 14 series will be making its official debut tomorrow (26th October).
The Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Pro launch is happening at 7pm (Malaysian time) on 26th October in China. Similar to the previous Xiaomi 13 series, we reckon that the global launch might take place either later this year or in early 2024. In the meantime, the latest flagship from Xiaomi Malaysia is the Xiaomi 13T series which packs great value for money for less than RM3,000.
Ahead of the launch, Xiaomi has already revealed the Xiaomi 14 and 14 Pro design on its social platforms in mainland China. It still gets a protruding cube camera bump design that features a triple-camera setup co-engineered with Leica. In terms of design, the front display appears to come with thinner symmetrical bezels while the phone is surrounded by a glossy stainless steel frame like the previous iPhone 13 Pro series.
Xiaomi has teased that its main camera uses a power-efficient 1/1.31″ sensor with 1.2-micron pixels that can be enlarged to 2.4-micron via pixel binning. It also boasts a 75mm portrait telephoto camera which allows you to get up close to your subject at 10cm. In addition, the Xiaomi 14 also boasts its brightest screen yet capable of achieving 3000 nits of peak brightness. As highlighted earlier, the Xiaomi 14 will be among their first devices to run on their new HyperOS which replaces MIUI.
During the Snapdragon Summit, Xiaomi President William Lu shared several industry-leading performance highlights of the Xiaomi 14 powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. When it comes to app performance, the Xiaomi 14 claims to be able to launch 30 apps consecutively in 140 seconds which is said to be an industry’s first.
The Xiaomi 14 also boasts incredible performance and the flagship smartphone claims to deliver 59.39fps on demanding games such as Genshin Impact while maintaining a temperature of only 43.2 degrees Celsius. Lu also said the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 might be the world’s most power-efficient flagship platform and it can reduce single-framerate power consumption by up to 10.6%.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is still based on a 4nm process but it will feature new Kryo CPUs with eight cores. According to Qualcomm, the new flagship mobile platform offers 30% faster CPU performance, 25% faster GPU performance and 98% faster NPU performance. Qualcomm is going out with AI and the new platform boasts loads of generative AI capabilities including generative AI photo and video editing and beyond.
