Bank Rakyat has announced that it has taken a leap into the future as Malaysia’s first 5G-connected bank. Bank Rakyat aims to future-proof its banking operations and improve customer experience by tapping into 5G technology via CelcomDigi as part of its digitalisation journey.

In the first phase, Bank Rakyat will equip its Bank Bergerak fleet with CelcomDigi’s 5G connectivity solution. According to the bank, the enhanced connectivity will improve operational efficiencies and deliver high-quality services to customers with seamless and swift transactions, even while on the move.

Bank Bergerak is one of Bank Bergerak’s social services to provide banking facilities to customers throughout the country especially in rural areas. Customers can perform various banking services at these “mobile banks” which include opening accounts, cash withdrawals, deposits, money transfers, bill payments and more. The mobile banks are on the move and they have been deployed in rural areas of the East Coast as well as Sabah and Sarawak. You can check their Bank Bergerak schedule on their website.

Bank Rakyat says it will explore numerous digital IoT opportunities, especially for cloud and cybersecurity solutions. It added that the initiatives will create avenues for additional digitalisation solutions and applications, fortifying the Bank’s digital capabilities, improving customer touchpoints and elevating competitiveness in the market.

Bank Rakyat CEO Dato Dr Mohammad Hanis Osman said, “Bank Rakyat has always prioritised customers’ needs through the enhancement of our customer’s journey by providing relevant financial or digital solutions in line with the Bank’s digitalisation and great customer experience agenda outlined in its five-year strategic plan, BR25. Therefore, we are creating this synergy to further enhance customers’ banking experience with stable technology applications and a secure business environment, especially in extending financial services to the unbanked, unreached, and underserved communities. This initiative also aims to address financial inclusion and catalyse the advancement and flourishing of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).”

Meanwhile, CelcomDigi CEO Datuk Idham Nawawi said “CelcomDigi is excited to be working with a like-minded partner like Bank Rakyat, having a shared goal in always finding innovative ways to bring more value to our respective customers. As a trusted digital partner, we have the right digital expertise and solutions to support Bank Rakyat in transforming the banking landscape in Malaysia, as they journey towards a digitally connected future. We look forward to delivering on our commitment to be a brand that customers can trust and rely on in this age of ‘digital-everything’.”
