[ UPDATE 5/10/2024 16:00 ] 1 Utama revises its idle fee to RM3/hour. EV Charging rate remains unchanged at RM1/kWh.

1 Utama Shopping Centre currently has one of the most affordable public EV chargers in the Klang Valley but the perk is coming to an end very soon. Effective 15th November 2023, 1 Utama will start imposing EV charging service fees while increasing the minimum deposit required to activate their AC chargers. To prevent hogging, 1 Utama is also introducing idle fees that will be charged on an hourly basis.
To recap, 1 Utama Shopping Centre currently offers free EV charging for the first three hours, followed by RM2 per hour for subsequent usage. The EV chargers are activated from the 1 Utama app and it will deduct a refundable RM10 deposit from your 1Pay account.
From 15th November 2023, these AC charge points at the shopping mall will be priced at RM1.00 per kWh. Once your car has been fully charged, you will be charged RM2.00 per hour for every subsequent hour, 15 minutes after the charging session has ended. In addition, the minimum deposit required to activate the charger has been increased from RM10 to RM30.
That means if your EV can accept 11kW consistently, an hour of charging will cost you about RM11 while 3 hours will cost you about RM33. The kWh rates are perhaps more favourable for EVs or Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) that could only accept 3.7kW or less since it would only cost them RM4 per hour. Take note that you’ll still have to pay for the applicable parking charges when you enter the parking area.
According to the terms and conditions, the 1Pay transaction for the EV charging fee is not eligible for UPoint earning and any OneCard or 1Pay promotions. Despite the idle fee, 1 Utama states that the management reserves the right to clamp the unauthorised parking vehicle.
At the moment, 1 Utama has a total of 11 EV charging bays with five located at Level 4 New Wing, four at the basement car park of Old Wing and two at One Utama E car park. The provided chargers are 11kW units which are great for charging your EV while you spend a couple of hours shopping. With more EVs on Malaysian roads, finding an available charger at 1 Utama is getting trickier unless you arrive at early opening hours.
With the new rates, we can probably expect higher availability and faster turnaround of charging bays at 1 Utama since it costs far less to charge at home or even at other public AC charge points. TNB currently charges RM0.57 per kWh on the highest tariff which is about half of 1 Utama’s new EV charging rates.
In case you missed it, IPC Shopping Centre has also started charging for its 11kW AC chargers which are now priced at RM7 per 30 minutes, which is RM14 per hour. However, for every hour spent on charging at IPC, you do get 100 points which can be redeemed for 30 minutes of EV charging. So effectively, you’re paying RM7 per hour minus the extra points redeemed.
Sunway Pyramid has also started imposing fees for their 7kW AC charge points and they are priced at RM4 per hour.
