While the majority of Tesla’s activities in Malaysia take place in Klang Valley, it seems that the company has begun to spread its efforts to other parts of the country. Earlier this week, the company activated Malaysia’s second public Tesla Supercharger site in Johor but that’s not the only thing happening there right now.
Tesla Malaysia also took the opportunity to showcase the Model Y at the Sunway Big Box in the Sunway City Iskandar Puteri which is the exact location where the Supercharger site is located. According to Sunway, the public can check out the fully electric SUV at the Main Concourse area of the shopping mall until this Sunday, 8 October.
In case you missed the announcement back in July, here’s the official pricing for Tesla Model Y in Malaysia:
- Rear Wheel Drive – RM199,000
- All-Wheel Drive Long Range – RM246,000
- All-Wheel Drive Performance – RM288,000
You can order the Model Y right now through Tesla Malaysia’s website by placing a non-refundable booking fee of RM1,000. The base unit only comes in Pearl White, so you’ll have to extra RM5,000 to get it in Solid Black, Midnight Silver Metallic and Deep Blue.
If you want the Red, that would be RM10,000 instead. Other customisable options that are available for Model Y include a white interior for RM5,000 and 20″ Induction Wheels for RM10,000.
On the software side of things, you can upgrade to Enhanced Autopilot suite for RM16,000. If you want to go all the way to Full Self-Driving (FSD) Capability, that would set you back RM32,000 but do be aware that this particular option is still subject to regulatory approvals.
Since we are talking about a location outside of Klang Valley, right now the only Tesla Delivery Centre location that has been confirmed so far is in the Tesla Centre Cyberjaya. All customers have to pick their new Model Y there, so you have to make your own transportation arrangements especially if you are living in East Malaysia which could come at a hefty price due to extra shipping and handling.
Aside from Sunway Big Box Johor this weekend, you currently can have hands-on experience with Model Y over at the Tesla’s pop-up showroom in Pavilion Kuala Lumpur until the end of October. Of course, you can also head on to the Tesla Experience Centre at the newly opened Tesla Centre Cyberjaya.
In case you haven’t gotten to know the Model Y just yet, then our first drive experience with the Model Y Rear Wheel Drive right here would be a great way to get you started. Also, don’t forget that the Model 3 Highland is also on its way to Malaysia later this month.
