The Tecno Phantom V Flip has been making the rounds online for a while now, having already made its debut on the global stage a while back. However, the company is now bringing in this budget friendly flip phone to our shores, complete with a fairly affordable price tag too.

Just like how their Phantom V Fold became the cheapest foldable smartphone in Malaysia when it arrived back in May, the Phantom V Flip now becomes the cheapest flip phone that you can get brand new in Malaysia. Available in just one configuration with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, you can get it for RM2,999 from the official Tecno Malaysia Shopee store. As part of its early bird promotion, if you get one for yourself by 7 October, you’ll also snag a near RM100 discount and a free Tecno Spark Go smartphone.
Tecno Phantom V Flip specs
The Tecno Phantom V Flip when unfolded will feature a large 6.9-inch, AMOLED display pushing an FHD+ resolution. It does have an LTPO backplane, allowing for a 10Hz to 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, and is also capable of a peak brightness of 1,000nits, full coverage of the DCI-P3 colour gamut and has a layer of Schott UTG for it for some scratch resistance. Tecno claims a crease that’s less than 0.11mm in depth, with its hinge allowing for hovering angles between 30° to 150° and has also been tested for at least 200,000 folds.
Flip it shut and you’ll be greeted with a large circular camera bump, which houses a circular AMOLED display in the middle. It’s certainly not the largest at 1.32-inches wide, with a 466 x 466p resolution, but does have a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass Victus over it for protection. You’ll be able to see a bunch of widgets and tools from this cover screen, such as the time, set alarms, quick access your messages and even set a virtual pet that lives in the cover screen.
Aside from the cover display, that huge circular camera bump also houses what Tecno calls its FreeCam camera setup. It consists of a main 64MP, f/1.7 camera using a 1/1.73-inch sensor, flanked by a 13MP, f/2.2 ultrawide shooter allowing for a 120° field of view. When unfolded you’ll also find a 32MP, f/2.45 selfie shooter.
Under the hood is a MedaTek Dimensity 8050 system-on-chip, a 6nm upper midrange processor mated to 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. It comes with Android 13 out of the box, skinned with their own HiOS13.5 Flip theme over it. Tecno has previously stated that the Phantom V Flip will receive at least two major Android OS upgrades and three years of security updates.
Other features of note include stereo speakers, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, and support for 5G, NFC, WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1 wireless connectivity. Keeping the lights on meanwhile is a 4,000mAh battery with 45W SuperCharge fast charging. Available in Mystic Dawn and Iconic Black colourways, one thing the Phantom V Flip does lack is an IP rating, so you’ll want to keep it out of water as best as possible.
