The EV chargers located in the Preferred Parking area of Sunway Pyramid will no longer be free. Instead, EV owners have to pay a charging fee on top of the existing parking fee according to the duration of their usage starting 1 October 2023.

First noted by the President of the Malaysian Electric Vehicle Owners Club, Shahrol Azral, these 7kW AC chargers have to be activated through the JomCharge app. Before this, EV owners could utilise these chargers simply by plugging the cables into their vehicles but once the new policy is implemented, they have to pay RM4.00 per hour.

As the chargers have been wrapped in Gentari x JomCharge branding according to the latest pictures posted on the location’s PlugShare listing, they should be accessible via the Setel app too but they are still missing from the app at the moment. That being said, they have appeared on the ChargEV app though.

However, the pricing that was listed on the ChargEV app at the moment is RM1.01/kWh. We believe that is inaccurate since the chargers at Sunway Pyramid Preferred Parking area are supposed to be available for free until today.

To be clear, the chargers that we mentioned above are located at the shopping mall’s B1 basement parking lot. Sunway Pyramid actually has another Preferred Parking area with EV chargers located upstairs on the CP2 floor but these chargers are under the control of Shell Recharge instead.

Not only that, they also have a much lower output than the B1 chargers at only 3.7kW. Regardless of the Preferred Parking zones that you choose, do note that their parking rates are much higher than the mall’s standard parking zones.
