While AirAsia has an extensive network around the region, they don’t cover every airport in Indonesia. With a new MoU signed by AirAsia’s parent company, Capital A, and Garuda Indonesia, the owner of Citilink, soon you can book a ticket from any AirAsia destination to any Citilink destination.

The interlink agreement will give AirAsia passengers access to underserved third and fourth-tier cities in Indonesia in the Citilink network. This is also AirAsia’s first-ever interlink agreement. AirAsia now has access to Citilink’s 50 domestic destinations, while Citilink customers can tap into AirAsia’s 150 international destinations for a seamless travel experience.

The interlink is set to become fully integrated from Q1 of 2024, so you can expect Citilink flights to appear in your flight bookings to Indonesia, or AirAsia flights in your Citilink booking page by then.

AirAsia Group CEO, Bo Lingam, stated, “We are thrilled about the start of this new journey for AirAsia, something I have believed is important for our next phase of growth, and we have the most ideal partner in Citilink, whose strong domestic connectivity and our international routes create a powerful synergy. Over the next few years, you will be seeing some exciting tie-ups like Citilink which will help AirAsia, its partners and of course our guests, in making the world a smaller place.”

At the same time today, Capital A’s logistics venture, Teleport, signed a partnership agreement with Garuda Indonesia Cargo. This agreement combines the air logistics network of both brands, enabling cross-network goods transport. Teleport will have access to Garuda’s 90 global destinations and Garuda Indonesia Cargo will be able to transport goods to over 160 destinations across Asia Pacific in the Teleport network.

There is also a Repair and Overhaul (MRO) services tie-up between Capital A, via Asia Digital Engineering (ADE), and Garuda’s GMF AeroAsia where both companies are in discussion to explore opportunities for a strategic partnership to offer value MRO services third-party airlines seeking maintenance support.

The MoU between Capital A and Garuda Indonesia is a good option for Capital A to grow in the region – not only for commercial flights but also cargo and MRO services.
