[ UPDATE 23/11/2023 ] Tesla Destination Chargers at Sunway Putra Mall are now available, free until further notice.

Sunway Putra Mall Kuala Lumpur has been confirmed as the first site of Tesla Destination Charging in Malaysia. The new charging site was established barely one month after the first Tesla Supercharger in the country at Pavilion KL was activated.
Located on the B2 floor of the shopping mall’s underground car park, this particular Destination Charging spot has a total of 6 charging bays. Each of them has been equipped with Tesla Wall Connector which is the same charger that the company offered for home charging.
Unlike the Tesla Supercharger which is designed to charge your Tesla very quickly, the Tesla Destination Charger is meant for those who want to stay at the location for an extended period. Hence, that why is Destination Chargers are usually located at hotels, resorts, restaurants, and of course, shopping malls.
While Sunway may have been one of several local developers that have signed a deal with Tesla, the sudden appearance of the Sunway Putra Mall’s Destination Chargers still caught us by surprise. Since this location has yet to appear on Tesla’s website, its exact charging capability is still not yet known.
That being said, we expect them to be able to support at least 11kW since that is the charging speed for the onboard AC charger on Tesla Model 3 Highland and Model Y. According to Tesla, its Wall Charger can provide up to 71km (~44 miles) for each hour of charging.
Based on other Tesla Destination Charging locations throughout the world, Tesla owners should be able to utilise the Destination Chargers in Sunway Putra Mall for free and they can monitor the charging progress remotely through the Tesla mobile app. That being said, Tesla does offer a Pay-Per-Use Charging arrangement for commercial properties that installed at least six Wall Connectors.
So, there is a possibility that users may have to pay to charge their Tesla at this location. Of course, let’s not forget about the car park fees which they still have to pay regardless of whether there is a charging fee or not.
Based on our quick visit, it seemed that the construction of the Tesla Destination Charging spot at Sunway Putra Mall is almost done, if not already completed altogether. So, expect the charging site to be operational very soon and we will keep you posted once that happens.
Thanks to Azri Mansor for the tip!
