Yinson’s ChargEV, RydeEV, and DrivEV to utilise CelcomDigi 4G and 5G networks

Yinson Holdings and CelcomDigi have established a partnership to explore electric vehicle services and infrastructure in Malaysia. Both companies have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at EVM Asia 2023 to mark the beginning of the journey.

In case you are not familiar with the name, Yinson Holdings is the parent company of Yinson GreenTech (YGT) which operates the country’s largest EV charging network, ChargEV. The company have more than 350 chargers under its wings nationwide and has also expanded to Singapore with two chargers in Ang Mo Kio.

Aside from that, YGT also dabbled in the electric motorcycle market and battery swapping technology through the RydeEV service. The company plans to make the lease-to-own service available to the public sometime later this year with a monthly fee that starts from RM299 per month and is inclusive of an unlimited battery swapping plan.

YGT also provides a corporate and commercial EV leasing service called DrivEV. In Malaysia, the service currently offers several EV models from BYD, Hyundai, Kia, and Ora alongside electric vans from Foton, Sokon, and Maxus.

One of the key points from the announcement is that ChargEV, RydeEV, and DrivEV will be utilising CelcomDigi’s 4G and 5G networks in the near future. This does not come as a surprise, given that EV chargers, battery swapping stations, and even EVs themselves rely on connectivity to perform many of their features.

Naturally, this partnership will also see Yinson and CelcomDigi exploring other possible solutions within the green energy space. This partnership is still in its infancy though, so it is going to be a while before we can see end-user offerings coming out from Yinson and CelcomDigi’s collaboration.
