Along with the new Apple Watch Series 9, the new Apple Watch Ultra 2 was also announced at the Apple “Wonderlust” event. The overall look of the rugged watch is the same as the original Ultra. However, the rugged Apple Watch gets an internal upgrade, just like the Series 9, and includes the new gesture controls, just like the Series 9.
Apple Watch Ultra 2 Malaysian Pricing
It will be retailing in Malaysia for RM 3,799. There is only one size available for the Ultra 2 – 49mm, but as per the previous generation, users can match it with the Ocean Band, or two new carbon-neutral options – the Alpine Loop band or the Trail Loop band.
First-wave countries can make their pre-orders of the new Series 9 starting today and get it from physical stores from 22 September. No shipping information is available for Malaysia as of yet.
Apple Watch Ultra 2 specs and features
Apple Watch Ultra 2 is largely unchanged when compared to the previous generation – it sports a 49mm case, and it has a flat screen when compared to the Series 9. What is new this time around is under the hood, and also on the screen.
For the screen, Apple has increased the brightness to a peak of 3,000 nits – a 50% increase over the last generation and also Apple’s brightest screen on any product so far.
The performance will see a bump, thanks to the new S9 chip that is also powering the Series 9. With the new chip, users will also see the neat features enabled by the chip – including double-tap gestures, better Siri integration, and watchOS 10.
What is new is the Bluetooth connectivity between the Ultra and sensors such as power meters, speed sensors and cadence sensors. This will be useful for cyclists looking to log their rides, as well as logging cycling workouts. The connectivity will offer new metrics and Workout Views, right on the Ultra 2.
Also new are the new watch faces, including the new Modular Ultra. This watch face uses more of the outer screen to show more data for the users at a glance. Other new watch faces include Snoopy, Palette, Solar Analog, and Nike Globe.
The Night Mode now uses the ambient light sensor for automatic activation in the dark. There is also the updated Compass app that displays current elevation in real-time and includes a 3D view of waypoints showing relative elevation.
Apple also has updated the construction of the Apple Watch Ultra 2 – instead of using new Titanium, the new watch will use 95% recycled Titanium instead.
Joining the Ocean Band are two new band options – the Alpine Loop (available in blue, indigo, olive) and the Trail Loop (available in orange/beige, green/grey, blue/black)
