Rolls-Royce Spectre Malaysia: The only EV where range doesn’t matter

A symbol of luxury all over the world, you may not think of Rolls-Royce as a progressive automaker. On the contrary, the company already transitioned into the electric era through the new Rolls-Royce Spectre which is now officially available in Malaysia.

Believe it or not, the brand’s co-founder Charles Rolls already foresaw electric vehicles as the alternative to traditional internal combustion-based vehicles. More than a century later, the Spectre is here to kick off Rolls-Royce’s effort to make its entire portfolio to be fully electric by 2030.

How much it costs to get your hands on this first-ever fully electric Rolls-Royce in history? In Malaysia, the Spectre commands a starting price of RM 2,000,000 not inclusive of any taxes but at the moment, fully-imported EVs are exempted from excise and import duties until the end of 2025.

In the world of Rolls-Royce, that is really just the base price. The final price depends on the customisation that you wish to perform on your Spectre, given the fact that each Rolls-Royce is bespoke.

Featuring two electric motors that provide a combined output of 430kW (577hp) together with 900Nm of torque, the Spectre can go from 0 to 100km/h in 4.5 seconds. Rolls-Royce has also fitted a 102kW battery into its new EV that allows it to deliver a WLTP range of 530km.

But does the range really matter though? Rolls-Royce said that its average customers have more than 7 cars in their garage, so they likely have other options if they need to go further. Or a private jet, in that matter.

Meanwhile, Spectre has also been equipped with an onboard 22kW AC charger that allows it to be fully charged in less than six hours. When plugged into a 195kW DC fast charger, it only takes 34 minutes to recharge the ultra-luxury EV from 10% to 80%.

With a drag coefficient of 0.25cd, Spectre is also said to be the most aerodynamic Rolls-Royce to date. This was made possible by its sleek profile that includes a seamless roofline and a redesigned Spirit of Ecstasy figurine that was redesigned to have a much lower stance.

The EV’s massive pillarless coach doors may look intimidating at first, given their size but they have been fitted with the Effortless Doors power-assisted system which makes it easier to handle them. In fact, the driver’s door would close automatically when the brake pedal is pressed which is a feature that is currently exclusive to Spectre.

Once you step into the EV, you will be welcomed by the Starlight Doors and Starlight Headliner that consisting of more than 6,000 individual LED “stars”. There are also an additional 5,500 stars on the illuminated fascia that is located on the passenger side of the dashboard.

Just like other Rolls-Royce, the Spectre also comes with hidden umbrellas. While the company didn’t touch much on the subject, this EV actually has a Level 2 driving automation as it has been equipped with Active Lane Centring and Adaptive Cruise Control that can work simultaneously.
