Clean air at home is essential to ensure good health for you and your family members. Even though the air is less polluted because you live far away from major cities and towns, why would you still settle for anything less than the cleanest possible air? Therefore, many of us have at least one air purifier at home, going about its day, removing contaminants from the air.
But the effectiveness of an air purifier is determined by its strength to circulate the air in a room. Else, it will just be cleaning the air around it while the air in the other parts of the room remains untouched and contaminated. So, if you have a large room, you’re going to need an air purifier that has the power to circulate air from every corner of the room.
One such air purifier that can offer just that is STORM II by a brand recognised by many in Malaysia, Coway. The STORM II is not only an air purifier, but it can also double as a fan. So let’s take a look at what gives this air purifier its cleaning power.
Up to 10-meter air flow distance
To effectively clean the air in a room, an air purifier needs to have the power to circulate the air, so that air from every corner of the room will make its way to the filtration system of the air purifier.
The STORM II draws in air through the perforated section on the front using a 320mm wide fan and can blow it out through two different outlets. One outlet is located at the top of the air purifier while the other is a hollow section at the front which has the power to blow air up to a distance of 10 meters when working alone.
With air coming out from both outlets, the STORM II can push clean air to every corner of the room, displacing the stale air that gets pushed towards the filter.
Besides that, the air shooting out from the front can also be used for some extra cooling in the room. But don’t worry about the strong airflow as you can adjust the wind speed accordingly. So whether you’re sitting next to the air purifier or across the room, you can be sure that the air will reach you.
72mm thick filtration system
With so much air being moved, the STORM II needs a comprehensive filtration system to effectively clean the air. Which it does. The filtration system is comprised of 4 components, starting with the pre-filter which is responsible for removing pet hair and large dust particles. Anything smaller will be captured by the fine dust filter in the second stage.
After that, the air will move through a double deodorisation filter. Here, odours from pet stool, pet feed, sweat, and body are removed. Additionally, gasses released by disinfectants, paint thinners, cigarettes, and gas stoves are also removed. Before the air is released back into the room, it goes through a Copper HEPA Filter (H13) to capture airborne bacteria, viruses, and black mold.
Altogether, the air goes through a total of 72mm thick filtration system which removes up to 99.9% ultrafine dust, airborne viruses, bacteria and black mold.
The large filtration volume also ensures that the STORM II doesn’t get clogged up with contaminants quickly when using it in a large room.
Powerful yet silent
Despite its power to circulate a high volume of air, the STORM II doesn’t sound like a jet turbine. When operating at its maximum speed, Coway says the sound level is at 45.2db. For context, a normal conversation is about 60db.
However, under normal operation, when the STORM II is just maintaining the air quality of the room, the sound it makes is barely noticeable. It’s so quiet that you will forget there’s an air purifier running in the room. This makes it perfect for any situation or location, be it a nursery, bedroom, reading room, or living room.
Powerful yet efficient
For something that will be running 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, energy consumption would be a concern. During normal operation, the STORM II draws about 42W of electricity which is lower than that of a common ceiling fan at about 75W.
Moreover, the air purifier also has sensors to analyse the surrounding air quality and adjust the filtration power accordingly. So when the air in the room is clean, there’s no need for the STORM II to be running at full bore. It can switch to a low-power mode, which is enough to maintain the optimum air quality.
Different modes for different situations
At the top of the STORM II, you will find a row of capacitive buttons that control its functions. You have four modes to choose from which are Smart, Turbo, Haze, and Sleep. For everyday use, Smart is the ideal operating mode where the STORM II will use its sensors to detect the air quality and optimise the filtration strength.
But say you recently hosted an open house, where you had the doors open for guests to come in and the windows open for additional light, and the air inside your house is now contaminated with pollutants. Well, you can quickly freshen up the air by switching the STORM II to Haze mode. The 10-minute, 3-stage process will use the wide, front, and top circulation to clean and filter the air.
Then there’s the direction control that allows you to manually choose where the wind shoots out from. Choosing the front direction allows you to use the STORM II as a fan and adjust the wind strength with the 3-level speed control.
Service by professionals
Just like any other products offered by Coway, the STORM II comes with a service and maintenance package for up to 5 years at no additional cost. Moreover, if you encounter any issues with your STORM II at any time during that period, Coway will dispatch their Service Technician (ST) to sort it out at no additional cost as well.
So if you’re in the market for an air purifier that has the capability to circulate the air in a large room and remove odours, harmful gasses, ultrafine dust, airborne viruses, bacteria and black mold, then the STORM II with its multidirectional airflow and 72mm thick filtration system ticks all those boxes.
Normally, the STORM II can be yours for RM98 a month with Coway’s easy payment plan. But for a limited time, Coway is offering the STORM II for just RM70 a month and wavering the RM200 registration fee!
