Thanks to the EU ruling, we will finally get USB-C on the next-generation iPhone 15. The port is more versatile and efficient than Apple’s own Lightning as well as supporting high transfer speeds up to 40Gbps. Unfortunately, don’t expect those speeds for the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus.

According to leaker Majin Bu, the standard iPhone 15 cable that will be shipped with the phone will be limited to USB 2.0 speeds – which is 480Mbps, the same speed as the current Lightning. Additionally, charging will be capped at 20W.

On the other hand, the Pro models will include faster transfer speeds. According to reports online, the Pro models could support “at least” USB 3.2 or Thunderbolt 3, which theoretically has transfer speeds of up to 40Gbps. No indication if the Pro models will support USB-PD charging, or at least faster charging speeds – even though previous reports speculated that the Pro models will support up to 35W.

Reports also said that the iPhone 15 cables, regardless of model, will be thicker and more durable than the previous generation. The cables will also be braided and colour-matched to the devices out of the box.
