A month after Tesla Malaysia had its official launch, its first Supercharger location at Pavilion KL is now open for Tesla owners to fast charge their EVs. These fast DC chargers capable of up to 250kW are finally operational after Tesla Malaysia obtained the EV Charging System (EVCS) licence from the Energy Commission (ST).
Tesla Supercharger charging rates at Pavilion KL
The Tesla Supercharger at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur in Bukit Bintang is located at Level B1 at Pillar C21. There are a total of 8 Supercharger stalls which are capable to provide a peak output of 250kW. According to Tesla, a quick 15-minute charge is enough to provide a Tesla Model Y up to 270km of range.
These Supercharger stalls are priced at RM1.25 per kWh which is comparable to other DC chargers in the market. As a comparison, ChargEV are currently pricing its 320kW Kempower DC chargers at RM1.20 per kWh while Gentari’s 350kW ABB DC chargers are priced at RM1.70 per kWh.
If you’re driving a Tesla Model Y RWD which has a 57.5kWh battery, a charge from 10-80% will cost you about RM50.31. Meanwhile, the Model Y AWD Long Range and Performance with a larger 75kWh battery would cost about RM65.63 for a quick 10-80% charge.
How to use Tesla Supercharger at Pavilion KL?
Unlike most other EV brands, Tesla Supercharger uses a Plug & Charge system where you won’t need to mess around with apps or physical cards to activate the charger. Just pick up the connector, press the button on the handle to remotely open the charging flap and connect it to the Tesla’s charging port to start charging. The Tesla Supercharger will be able to identify your Tesla vehicle and the linked account automatically. Once charging is completed, the cost of charging will be billed to your saved payment method in your Tesla account.
You can monitor your Tesla Supercharging status from the Tesla app and it will notify you when the charge is nearly completed.
With a DC fast charger, it is recommended to limit your EV charging to 80% as the charging rate will drop significantly when the State of Charge (battery %) increases. Charging from 80-100% may take a much longer time than charging from 10-80%. Take note that the Tesla Supercharger at Pavilion is exclusively for Tesla vehicles only and it is not open to other EV brands just yet.
Tesla Supercharger Idle Fees at Pavilion KL
Tesla Supercharger also imposes idle fees of up to RM4.00 per minute as a way to prevent hogging of the Tesla Supercharger stalls. According to the FAQ, an idle fee of RM2.00 per minute will be charged if the Supercharger station is at 50% capacity. If all chargers are occupied, the idle fee is doubled to RM4.00 per minute. The idle fee is charged if you don’t move your Tesla once the Supercharger session is completed. It is mentioned in the app that the idle fees will be waived if the car is moved within 5 minutes after the charging is completed.
Since these chargers can charge a Tesla very quickly, it is recommended to use these Superchargers when you’re leaving Pavilion Kuala Lumpur.
Pavilion Kuala Lumpur Parking Rates
