Remember Threads, the Twitter competitor from Meta? You can soon check it out on the desktop as Meta has confirmed that the web version is set to be released within the next few days.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg cheekily posted on a Threads post that he is working on releasing the long-awaited web version of the social media platform soon.

At launch, the web version will only allow users to post, view their feed, and interact with posts in their desktop browser. It will not be at total parity with the mobile app as some functions will be missing on day one. The team is working to add more functions in the coming weeks.

Threads have seen its ups and downs since its launch a few months ago – at launch, it saw the fastest growing userbase in a day, where it saw over 5 million users sign up within a few hours. It also hit 100 million users within a week of its launch – making it the fastest-growing app ever on any mobile platform.

It did see a severe drop in engagement – up to 70% decline in the number of daily active users since its peak.

The launch of the new desktop version may increase engagement again as the ability to surf their accounts on the desktop is one of the highly sought-after features that users have been asking the Threads team since its launch, alongside followers-only timeline view.

Account deletion is also another feature that is still in development by the Threads team. As for right now, Instagram and Threads share the same account structure so if you delete one account, the other is deleted as well.

No confirmed date has been shared by the team on the official availability of the web version.
