A video on Sony’s official YouTube channel has confirmed that something new is coming from them this 29 August. While no hints of clues are available, the word on the street is that the launch will be for the replacement of the Sony A7C.
As a reminder, the A7C is a full-frame camera in a compact range-finder body which was launched way back in September 2020. Since its launch almost three years ago, Sony has added five new models to the A7 family.
The speculation is that the new A7C replacement will feature a newer high-resolution 33MP sensor as well as an improved auto-focus system from the A7IV. Along with the two features, there will be new AI-powered functions baked into the body.
Also speculated that a second model will be launched alongside the A7C replacement. The second model will have a higher resolution sensor when compared to the A7C replacement – the same 61MP sensor as the A7R V. It will lose some features such as 8K recording and a second memory card slot, but it is said it will share the same 4-axis Multi-angle LCD monitor as the A7R V.
It should be noted that the price could be higher than the original A7C, which saw a launch price of RM8,399 for the body only.
The official launch event is set to start at 10 pm on 29 August, viewable via the video link above.
