Microsoft is set to hold a ‘special event’ next month, with reports of media being invited for a Microsoft event happening in New York on 21 September, Thursday. The Redmond giant has not provided any details just yet on what exactly the event will be about, but chances are we will be seeing some new Surface devices.
Microsoft typically releases new Surface devices in September or October each year, with last year’s Surface lineup being announced in early October 2022. This time around, we can expect to see the Surface Go 4, Surface Laptop Studio 2 and Surface Laptop Go 3; the Surface Laptop Studio 2 was recently rumoured to be coming with newer Intel processors, more I/O and also a more powerful graphics card under the hood. The Surface Go 4 meanwhile could be coming without an ARM-powered option this time.
We should also be seeing some new details on Microsoft’s software. They had previously mentioned that a major Windows 11 update was due to arrive this year around September, which will come with native support for RAR files along with improved tools to control your settings. There may also be news on Microsoft’s AI stuff, such as Windows Copilot and other AI tools that ought to be a major feature in their Surface lineup.
Incidentally, it’s also the first event that Microsoft will be holding after it revamped its accessory division earlier this year. They culled their Microsoft-branded accessories such as Microsoft keyboards, mice and webcams with the goal of promoting the Surface brand instead, though it remains to be seen if Microsoft will be releasing Surface-branded PC accessories instead.
