After a lengthy wait, Maxis customers are finally able to tap into 5G connectivity today after the telco received the green light from its shareholders to sign the 5G access agreement with Digital Nasional Berhad. The 5G access is available to all types of Maxis customers including Hotlink prepaid customers.
In general, the telco’s new 5G-enabled passes co-exist with the current 4G-only passes. Here’s how the new passes look like:
- RM3/day – Pantas 3GB 4G/5G, 1 day validity
- RM15/week – Pantas 15GB 4G/5G + Bonus 10GB 5G, 7 days validity
- RM45/month – Pantas 50GB 4G/5G + Bonus 25GB 5G, 30 days validity
- RM60/month – Pantas 70GB 4G/5G + Bonus 30GB 5G, 30 days validity, data roaming in Singapore, Indonesia, and Thailand
- RM45/month – Unlimited 4G/5G 6Mbps, 80GB FUP limit, 30 days validity
- RM55/month – Unlimited 4G/5G 12Mbps, 100GB FUP limit, 30 days validity
Depending on respective passes, some seem to provide additional value at slightly extra cost while others were simply given access to 5G as their new attraction.
For example, the new RM15 Pantas weekly pass gives customers 5GB of extra general data quota and 10GB of 5G-specific data for an additional RM5 over the existing RM10 Pantas weekly pass. The same goes for the RM45 Pantas monthly pass that offers 10GB more data than the current RM35 Pantas monthly pass, in addition to 25GB of 5G-specific data for just an additional RM10.
On the other hand, the Pantas RM3 daily pass is now 5G-enabled but still has the same 3GB quota. For Unlimited 6Mbps and 12Mbps monthly passes, you can have 5G for an additional RM5/month but your speed caps still remain the same at 6Mbps and 12Mbps, respectively.
For Hotlink customers that are not yet ready to get their hands on these new 5G Internet passes, Maxis has prepared a free 30-day trial pass for them to have a taste of what 5G has to offer. Available through the Hotlink app, they can obtain the free trial as long as they subscribe to the pass by 14 September 2023.
If you are worried about incurring extra charges in case you forgot to unsubscribe from the 5G pass before the 30-day period is over, fret not as this pass will not auto-renew. To learn more about the Hotlink 5G, just head on to its official website.
