Google Pixel 8 ad leaks, shows new ‘Audio Magic Eraser’ tool

The Google Pixel Fold and the Pixel 7a may have garnered all the headlines earlier this year when they debuted at Google I/O, but it’s almost time now for Google to freshen things up again with their mainstream flagship smartphones. Google is widely expected to debut the Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro some time in October, and ahead of its expected release an advert showing off a new AI-powered feature has appeared online.

In a post on the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, a video ad that featured the new ‘Audio Magic Eraser’ tool surfaced showing off the Pixel 8 Pro throughout the video. As its name implies, it appears to be an AI-powered tool that removes unwanted audio from your videos. The video has a Pixel 8 Pro user remove the noise coming off the wheels of a skateboard, while keeping the audio of the skateboarders themselves.

Curiously, while the video only shows the Pixel 8 Pro, the text in the ad says Google Pixel 8, which could mean that both the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro will have Audio Magic Eraser. On top of that, if you were wondering what’s wrong with the colours in the video, it’s likely that it was done on purpose as a way to signal that it’s not meant to be released to the public.

The Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro of course offered their own slew of AI-powered features already. When the Pixel 7 series debuted last year, Google showcased a number of new tools like Face Unblur and Photo Unblur, which used machine learning to fix your blurry photos, while Guided Frame allowed the visually impaired to take better selfies of themselves. An updated Macro Focus feature was also introduced, giving it impressive Macro Mode shots. Other features such as Real Tone and Magic Eraser meanwhile were already present on the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro.

Unfortunately, Malaysians have never been able to enjoy any of the Google Pixel’s cool AI-powered photography features—in any official capacity anyway. The Google Pixel smartphones have never been made available in Malaysia, with locals having to source them either via grey importers or by heading down south to Singapore, where the Pixel is sold.
