If you are heading up north with an electric vehicle (EV), Gentari and JomCharge have deployed new DC fast chargers located in Ipoh and Bukit Mertajam. These DC chargers offer up to 100kW of output and can charge two EVs at the same time.

Gentari’s 60kW DC Charger at Petronas Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah is a popular EV stop in Ipoh and now there’s a new alternative location at X Park Sunway City Ipoh. Deployed near Starbucks Sunway Tambun Drive-Thru, this Kempower DC Charger pushes up to 100kW and has two CCS2 nozzles that are configured in Dynamic power-sharing mode. If you need a quick charge at this location, the charger costs RM1.50 per kWh. This means a 20kWh top-up will cost you RM30.

For those travelling up north to Penang and Kedah, there’s also a new 80kW DC charger installed at a BYD Showroom at Bukit Mertajam. This charger also has two CCS2 nozzles that can push up to 80kW for one car or up to 40kW each if two EVs are charged at the same time. At the moment, this charger is priced at RM1.40 per minute according to the current promo rate.

This time-based pricing is quite expensive if you’re only getting a maximum rate of 40kW from this charger. At 40kW, a 20kWh charge will take about 30 minutes which will cost you RM42. Alternatively, there’s also another 50kW DC Charger nearby at Iktikadraya Northern Juru which is priced at RM1.20/minute. This Bukit Mertajam located next to the North-South Expressway is quite a prime location and there are several F&B outlets including KFC, Krispy Kreme and Starbucks nearby.

To activate these chargers, you can use the JomCharge (Apple App Store, Google Play Store) or Setel (Apple App Store, Google Play Store, Huawei AppGallery).
