AMD is making limited edition Starfield CPUs and GPUs, and you won’t be able to buy one

If you’re big into gaming, 2023 has been one great year for the industry. We’re only in August and so far we’ve already got major titles like Baldur’s Gate 3, Diablo IV and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. But the year is far from over, and one big upcoming title just happens to be Starfield, from the makers of The Elder Scrolls and Fallout games.

Starfield is an upcoming open world RPG game from Bethesda Game Studios, and is their first major title since 2014, and their first new franchise by Bethesda in over 25 years. Set to be available on 6 September onwards on PC and Xbox, Bethesda actually worked together with AMD in the making of Starfield, with AMD also Starfield’s exclusive PC partner.

To celebrate the upcoming launch of Starfield then, AMD is making 500 limited edition AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D processors and 500 limited edition AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX graphics cards. While the former will come in just a custom Starfield themed box the chip itself won’t have any Starfield branding on it, which makes sense really considering it’ll be tucked away under thermal paste and your CPU cooler anyway.

However, that Radeon RX 7900 XTX is a much different story. It’s already AMD’s most powerful graphics card ever, and PC gamers love nothing more than to show off their graphics card in their case. This limited edition graphics card is based on a reference design, with the GPU shroud getting a custom paint job in the white, blue, red, yellow and orange colours of Starfield. You’ll also find a matte white finish on the shroud and backplate, while the heatsink fins and fans are now blacked out. There’s Starfield themed text too, such as ‘Graphic Booster Propellant’ written on the bottom of the shroud. Even if you don’t intend to play Starfield, you have to admit that this is a very good looking graphics card.

“Explore the galaxy with unparalleled freedom with a Limited-Edition AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX GPU and AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D CPU. Inspired by the first new universe from Bethesda in over 25 years, our custom shrouded GPU evokes the boundless creativity and unique style of Starfield.

With just 500 graphics cards and CPUs being produced, they’re bound to be the most sought-after collector’s items in the cosmos,” – AMD

Unfortunately, it looks like neither you nor I will be getting our hands on these Starfield AMD processors and graphics cards anytime soon. AMD is not planning to sell any of the 500 CPUs and 500 GPUs to the public. Instead, AMD and Bethesda will be giving them away via giveaways on their social media pages and at events.
