After teasing a new cheaper 5G telco plan during a ceramah yesterday, Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil has now unveiled the new Pakej 5G Rahmah initiative from the government. This new telco plan will not only offer mobile data at 5G speeds, but also the chance to get a 5G smartphone for as low as RM120.
According to Fahmi, the new Pakej 5G Rahmah plan is a device bundle plan, offering 60GB of 5G mobile data for a monthly fee of RM60 per month. It will also come with either the Samsung Galaxy A14 5G or the Honor 90 Lite 5G for a single upfront fee of RM240. Telcos will begin offering it from 31 August 2023 onwards, and the Pakej 5G Rahmah will be offered only as a 2-year contract, with a 2-year warranty for the devices.
Any Malaysian can sign up for the new Pakej 5G Rahmah, but for those who are part of the B40 community, the first 100,000 B40 citizens will be able to purchase the bundled smartphone for just RM120.
The Samsung Galaxy A14 5G was launched in Malaysia in March this year, with a number of major upgrades compared tot he Galaxy A13 5G. Priced at RM949, it comes with a 6.6-inch, FHD+ LCD display with a 90Hz refresh rate, while under the hood it comes with a MediaTek Dimensity 700 paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. A 5,000mAh battery with 15W fast charging keeps the lights on.

Powering it is a slightly better Dimensity 6020 processor with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.
