Early adopters of the BYD Dolphin in Malaysia will receive a substantial amount of credit that they can use to charge their new EVs. In addition to that, they get to choose any of the two Charge Point Operators (CPOs) that they prefer too.
Specifically, BYD Sime Darby Motors will be provided with RM1,300 worth of charging credit alongside the BYD Dolphin. They can choose to have the credit with access to Yinson Green Tech’s ChargEV or Petronas green energy subsidiary Gentari.
Regardless of the CPOs that they prefer, ChargEV and Gentari are two of the biggest CPOs in the country. In addition to that, both companies together with JomCharge have activated the roaming feature which allows users to access all chargers from all three charging networks through the same app.
The roaming deal between ChargEV, Gentari, and JomCharge involved more than 600 chargers nationwide. In general, it covered approximately 60% of the public chargers in Malaysia to date.
However, this offer will not last forever though as only the first 800 customers will receive the RM1,300 credit. During today’s launch event, BYD Sime Darby Motors confirmed that it will begin to deliver the first batch of BYD Dolphins to customers this coming August
BYD Dolphin quick specs, price
In Malaysia, the fully electric hatchback can be obtained either as a Dynamic Standard model or the higher-end Premium Extended variant.
The BYD Dolphin Dynamic Standard is equipped with a single electric motor that is capable of delivering 70kW (95hp) and 180Nm of torque. BYD claimed that this variant can go from 0 to 100km/h in 12.3 seconds.
Running on a 44.9kWh BYD Blade battery pack, the Dynamic Standard option also has a WLTP range of 340km. When it comes to charging, the EV relies on an onboard 7kW AC charger and it also supports DC fast charging at up to 60kW.
As for the BYD Dolphin Premium Extended, it comes with a much higher capacity battery pack of 60.48kWh which allows this variant to deliver an improved WLTP range of 427km. It also features a more powerful 150kW (204hp) electric motor with 310Nm of torque that helps it accelerate from 0 to 100km/h much quicker at 7 seconds.
Even though the Dolphin Premium Extended has the same 7kW onboard AC charger as its Dynamic Standard counterpart, its DC fast charging can support up to 80kW instead of 60kW. Furthermore, it is also equipped with multi-link suspension instead of a torsion beam setup.
As for pricing, the Dolphin Dynamic Standard has a starting price of RM99,900 while the Premium Extended variant starts at RM124,900. However, s registration, HP ownership endorsement, base plate, and inspection, the actual OTR price not including insurance are RM100,530 and RM125,530 respectively.
