[ UPDATE 23:41 20/09/2023 ] The exact location of Tesla Malaysia’s headquarters at Cyberjaya has been revealed, thanks to a massive signboard that has just been installed on its entrance. Here’s our first look at the new facility.

Tesla will be setting up its Malaysian headquarters in Cyberjaya. This was confirmed by the Founder and CEO of Tesla, Elon Musk himself according to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

The confirmation took place during a virtual meeting between Anwar and Elon earlier today. Also present during the meeting was the Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry Tengku Zafrul as well as the Communication and Digital Minister, Fahmi Fadzil.

Tesla’s choice of Cyberjaya does not come as a surprise though, given that it was the very location where the company held its walk-in recruitment day last month. The response was quite overwhelming given the crazy long queue at the venue.

In his post-meeting press statement, the Prime Minister also said that Tesla’s service and experience centres will also be opened in Selangor. Unlike Tesla Malaysia’s headquarters, the statement did not reveal the exact location of these facilities though.

Aside from Tesla, the virtual meeting between both Anwar and Elon has also discussed SpaceX’s satellite-based Internet service, Starlink. While all the parties involved in the meeting acknowledge the fact that the importance of the service in delivering high-speed Internet to rural areas, there was no announcement regarding its availability in Malaysia.

As far as Elon-related ventures in Malaysia go, yesterday was all about Tesla. While many expect the company announce details of its EV offerings for Malaysia at the launch event next week, most of the interesting details were revealed yesterday instead.

Hence, we now know that the Model Y can be obtained in Malaysia with a starting price of RM199,000 although this price tag does not include taxes and other related fees. Customers can now book their units by paying a non-refundable order fee of RM1,000 on the website.

Meanwhile, we have also learned that Model Y customers will also be provided with a free Tesla Wall Connector although they still have to pay for the installation fee. Tesla has also taken the opportunity to reveal the first 10 Supercharger locations in Malaysia which include Johor, Negeri Sembilan, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Perak, and Penang.
