The Xiaomi Pad 5 launched in Malaysia back in September 2021 and quickly proved to be popular among locals, selling out shortly after its debut. The Chinese giant has since followed it up with the Xiaomi Pad 6 which launched in China a few months ago that builds upon its predecessor with small but notable improvements across the board. If you’re keen on the Xiaomi Pad 6 for yourself, then you won’t have to wait much longer as it will be debuting in Malaysia later this month.
According to Xiaomi, they will be launching the Xiaomi Pad 6 on 18th July, 8pm local time. They’ll be having a live stream in conjunction with the launch, and you can tune in yourself too by heading over to the Xiaomi Malaysia Facebook page. As for how much it’ll cost, we’ll have to wait till the 18th, but in India, the Pad 6 is going for INR26,999—the same as the Pad 5 when it launched there too. This could mean that the Pad 6 will be priced at or close to the RM1,399 starting price the Pad 5 debuted at back in 2021.
Xiaomi Pad 6 specs
The Xiaomi Pad 6 won’t look too different to the Pad 5, offering a similarly sized 11-inch IPS display. However, the display now pushes a slightly higher 1800 x 2880p resolution at a higher 309ppi pixel density, with an up to 144Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 550nits. There’s also a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 3 over it for scratch resistance.
Under the hood, the Pad 6 features the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 system-on-chip, which while not exactly the latest and greatest silicon out there, should still offer good enough performance for day-to-day use. This gets mated to up to 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. You’ll also find Android 13 out of the box, skinned with Xiaomi’s own tablet-focused MIUI Pad 14 skin over it.
There’s also a 13MP, f/2.2 rear camera that can shoot up to 4K video at 30fps, along with a front-facing 8MP, f/2.2 selfie camera that’ll likely come in handy for video conferencing. A 8,840mAh battery meanwhile keeps the lights on with up to 16 hours of video playback, which also has support for 33W wired fast charging.
There’s a quad-speaker setup here too, though unfortunately no 3.5mm headphone jack. It supports Xiaomi’s own Smart Pen stylus too, though it won’t come in the box. There’s also no SIM card slot here, so you’ll be limited to WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2 wireless connectivity.
