Ugreen is perhaps quite well known around here, being one of the go-to brands when shopping for gadgets and accessories online. They also tend to offer some pretty decent chargers, with their gallium nitride (GaN) chargers found on a number of desks here at the SoyaCincau office. However, we might have to upgrade them soon as Ugreen’s latest 300W GaN charger is looking mighty impressive.
As shown off by The Verge, Ugreen has a new 300W GaN charger that will make its global debut in August. With a recommended retail price of USD269 (~RM1,250.58), it’s certainly expensive and is could even be more expensive than the smartphone you’d plug it into. However, there’s a reason for its price; how many GaN chargers out there can output a 140W USB-PD charge that can fast charge the latest MacBook Pro, while still charging another four devices at the same time?
Ugreen’s new 300W GaN charger features four USB-C ports and a fifth USB-A port, meaning that you can charge up to five devices at the same time. Regardless of how many things you plug into it though, the main USB-C port will always be able to output 140W of juice. With all five ports used at the same time, you can also get a 65W charge from the second USB-C port, a 45W charge from the third, a 20W from the fourth and 22.5W from the USB-A port. If you’re with a group of friends or colleagues, you can even power up to three MacBook Air 13 laptops at the same time with the first three USB-A ports, and then two of you can still charge your phone too with the two remaining ports.
Of course, with any high-end charger like this, there will be questions of how safe it is. According to Ugreen, this new 300W charger will have a thermal monitoring system in it, which will take a temperature reading every half a second to prevent overheating from happening.
If you’re looking for a GaN charger now though, our friends over at SoyaCincau BM has already taken a look at five of them that you can already buy today:
