The Smart #1 fully-electric SUV will be on display at the upcoming Electric Vehicle Expo (EVx) later this month. This is the first time that the electric vehicle will be officially shown to the public in Malaysia.
Pro-Net’s plan to have the new EV on display at the event was first revealed through an event listing created by the brand’s official Facebook page. Organised by the automotive news site paultan.org, this year’s EVx will be taking place at Setia City Convention Centre in Shah Alam from 22 to 23 July.
The new electric SUV will be the centrepiece of Hap Seng Smart’s booth throughout the event. At the moment, Pro-Net has yet to reveal the exact launch date for the Smart #1 although it has previously stated that the EV will be rolled out into our market in Q4 this year.
Given the occasion, this is likely the perfect opportunity for the company to gauge the market’s interest in its EV. We have heard that Malaysia might be getting the Brabus variant of the Smart #1 as well but the Facebook event listing did not contain any specific reference to it.
Smart #1 (pronounced “hashtag one”) was conceived through a collaboration between Geely and Mercedes-Benz. Specifically, the Zhejiang giant was responsible for the engineering portion of the project as well as production while its Stuttgart counterpart was in charge of its design and styling.
The standard Smart #1 features a rear electric motor that delivers 200kW (268hp) of output alongside 343Nm of torque. With a top speed of 180km/h, the electric SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 6.7 seconds.
Also equipped with a 66kWh battery pack that allows the EV to have a rated WLTP range of up to 440km, it takes less than three hours to charge the EV from 10 to 80% via its onboard 22kW AC charger. On the other hand, a 150kW DC fast charger can reduce that charging time to under 30 minutes.
As for the Brabus version, you still get the same 66kW battery with similar charging time but the variant comes with a dual-motor all-wheel drive setup instead. This allows Smart #1 Brabus to deliver more performance than the standard model including improved output of 315kW (422hp) alongside 543Nm of torque.
Naturally, its century sprint time is quicker at 3.9 seconds. The performance upgrade does have some impact on its range though as the Smart #1 Brabus’ WLTP range is rated slightly lower at 400km.
