According to a report by the Borneo Post, an engineer in Kuching in his 50s has lost RM11,500 to a ticket scam on Carousell. He was trying to buy tickets to Taylor Swift’s ‘The Eras Tour’ concert that’s happening in Singapore in March next year.
According to Sarawak police commissioner Datuk Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri, the scam took place on 6th July when the victim saw an ad for the concert tickets on Carousell. He wanted to purchase a total of three tickets amounting to RM11,530 online. After making three payment transactions between 6th to 7th of July, the victim realised he was scammed when the suspect was no longer reachable. He then proceeded to lodge a police report.
As reported by the Straits Times, tickets for all six shows of Taylor Swift’s concert in Singapore were sold out on Friday. Ticketmaster Singapore said they are the official ticketing partner for all Singapore shows, and Ticketmaster cannot guarantee that tickets purchased elsewhere will be legitimate. Besides online sales, the concert tickets were also sold offline at SingPost offices in Singapore. It was reported that some have camped outside SingPost offices two days ahead of the general ticket sales.
