After teasing its arrival to Malaysia last month, we finally have our first look at the Samsung Odyssey OLED G9 gaming monitor courtesy of local distributor Sun Cycle Sdn Bhd.
According to Sun Cycle, the super ultrawide gaming monitor will be made available for purchase sometime near the end of this month, with two models of the Odyssey OLED G9 coming to our shore. The one with Tizen installed for smart monitor functionality will be priced at RM9,999, while the barebones display will cost you RM500 less at RM9,499.
First shown off by Samsung during CES 2023, the Odyssey OLED G9 is claimed to be the world’s first ‘DQHD’ OLED monitor, with that acronym apparently meaning ‘dual Quad HD’ resolution. This is because the massive monitor is a 49-inch, super ultrawide display with a 32:9 aspect ratio, giving it a 5120 x 1440p resolution—almost as if you have two regular 16:9 monitors next to each other but with no physical gap between them. The Odyssey OLED G9 is curved too, with a 1800R curvature to it.
Other features of note include a typical brightness of 250nits, a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio and a 240Hz refresh rate, as well as a 0.03ms grey-to-grey response time and DisplayHDR True Black 400 support. There’s RGB lighting on the back of the monitor too, because how else would you know that it’s a gaming monitor. The RGB lighting does have CoreSync functionality though, allowing it to project colours that match what you’re seeing on the display itself. Then there’s also the smart monitor functionality, letting you stream content on it off Netflix and YouTube for instance without needing a connected device. As for I/O, you get a HDMI 2.1 port, a DisplayPort, a MiniHDMI port and three USB-C ports on the back.
If you’re interested, if you pre-register your interest for it on the Samsung website you’ll be able to get up to RM300 in eVouchers and savings of up to RM2,000. You can find out more about Samsung Malaysia’s pre-registration promotion for it here.
