Signify (formerly Philips Lighting) has introduced its latest energy-efficient and sustainable lighting products for the Malaysian market during its “Let’s Go Eco with Philips Sustainable Lighting” event. This includes the Philips Ultra Efficient LED, Philips Solar Lighting and WiZ Smart Lighting.

According to Signify, their latest Philips Ultra Efficient LED range which consists of LED bulbs, LED tubes and LED downlights consumes 60% less energy than standard LED products of the same category that are being sold in the market today. In addition, these products boast a longer lifespan which claims to deliver up to 50,000 hours of light which is more than 3.5x the lifetime usage compared to standard LED products.

Energy consumption and lifespan comparison

As shown in their comparison, a conventional 40W bulb that produces 410 lumen is rated up to 1,000 hours while the regular 5.5W LED bulb that produces 470 lumen has a rated lifespan of 15,000 hours. According to Signify, the Ultra Efficient LED Bulb with 485 lumen uses just 2.3W and it can last up to 50 years based on usage of 2.7 hours per day for a total of 50,000 hours.

In Malaysia, the Ultra Efficient Bulb comes in Warm white (2700K) and Cool daylight, and it is offered in 4W (800 lumen), 5W (1000 lumen) and 7.5W (1500 lumen) options. Meanwhile, the Ultra Efficient Tube in Cool White (4000K) boasts a lifetime of 100,000 hours and it comes in 11.9W (2500 Lumen) and 17.6W (3700 Lumen) options.

Similar to the bulb, the Ultra Efficient Downlight boasts a lifetime of 50,000 hours but it comes in three colour temperatures – Warm White (3000K), Cool White (4000K) and Cool Daylight (6500K). The downlight is offered in 4.8W (860 / 900 Lumen) and 6.5W (1100 / 1150 Lumen) options.

Meanwhile, its Philips Solar Lighting range harnesses the power from the sun to light up your garden without using any electricity. Available in a variety of form factors such as solar flood lights, solar wall lights, solar garden and landscape lighting, Signify says these products are aesthetically designed to provide optimal lighting output during evening hours without incurring additional electricity bills.

Besides energy saving, Signify has also showcased several features that are designed to improve the health and well-being of Philips Lighting consumers. Its Meson Interlaced Optics LED downlight uses 3D microstructure patterns that are aimed at reducing glare by 40%. According to Signify, the eye comfort technology aims at reducing eye discomfort while studying and working for long hours under the light. The Double-Ended LEDtube is also designed with safety regulations and compliant with IEC standards. This includes a safety lock on the end cap to prevent the tube from turning on by accident, for safer installation.

Signify also has its own lineup of WiFi-connected smart lights under its WiZ Smart Lighting series which was introduced in November last year. The range also features SpaceSense, which essentially turns your lights into motion detectors. According to Signify, the feature takes home automation to the next level with WiFi sensing and there’s no need for extra sensors and batteries.

During the event, they also launched the Philips HexaStyle Downlights and Philips Magnetic Track Light range. This allows customers to build their own customised lighting for their homes. Signify also showcased its scene switch and CCT select light fixtures, which allows customers to adjust the colour of the same light fitting with a toggle of a switch. The colour can also change depending on their current activities such as working, relaxing or during entertainment.

Signify Malaysia CEO Sukanto Aich said, “Under the Let’s Go Eco (friendly) event theme, we launched the Philips Ultra Efficient LED range of lighting products using one of our latest technology innovations that helps reduce energy consumption substantially. At a time when the world is grappling with energy issues, this range of products will enable everyone to reduce their energy bills, combat climate change and practice sustainability.”

“Our goal is to make these products accessible to all consumers in Malaysia. We will continue to introduce such thoughtful and impactful solutions that build on our sustainable offerings and help us in our mission of Brighter Lives and a Better World”, he added.

He also revealed that Signify became a carbon neutral company across its global operations in 2020 and has continued to lead the industry achieving milestones in line with UN sustainability goals.
