Kia is about to expand its electric vehicle lineup in Malaysia this week by bringing in the Kia Niro EV. The compact SUV will be joining the EV6 GT-Line which was launched in our market last year.
We first heard of the brand’s plan to roll out Niro EV in Malaysia way back in 2021. However, it is only today that we have discovered through Bermaz Auto’s website that the new model will be making its public debut later this week at Pavilion Bukit Jalil.
Not long after we published the news about Niro EV’s first official outing in Malaysia, we have since learned that the Niro EV’s section on Kia Malaysia’s website is now online. Also available on the website is the brochure for the car as well as its full specs sheet which has revealed new information to us.
Niro EV performance, battery, range, charging, V2L
Before we go further, let us address some of the technical specs for the Malaysian variant of the Niro EV which have now been confirmed by the official website of Kia Malaysia.
Just like other markets throughout the world, the brochure noted that the Niro EV for the Malaysian market still features a 150kW (201hp) electric motor with 255Nm of torque. It also has a top speed of 167km/h alongside a century sprint timing of 7.8 seconds.
Similarly, the lithium-ion battery pack that was fitted into the Malaysian variant of the Niro EV still has a nominal capacity of 64.8kWh. This allows it to deliver a WLTP range of 460km.
Through the onboard 11kW AC charger, it takes around 6 hours and 20 minutes for the EV’s battery to be fully charged from 10%. When plugged into an 80kW DC charger, it takes 49 minutes to go from 10 to 80%.
Meanwhile, the Niro EV also comes with the Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) feature which allows owners to power up electrical appliances using the car’s high-voltage battery. According to Kia Malaysia’s website, the V2L setup on Niro EV is able to deliver up to 3.6kW of power.
Niro EV colourways for Malaysia
Another new piece of information that we have learned from Kia Malaysia’s website is that Niro EV is available in three different colourways including Snow White Pearl, City Scape Green, and Mineral Blue. Despite their names, all three options are actually multi-tone colourways.
This is mainly due to the contrasting colour tones that Kia has implemented on the EV’s C-pillar. The same concept has also been applied to its overfenders and all the way to the lower area of the rear doors.
Fully packed with safety features
The specs sheet on Kia Malaysia’s website has also revealed the list of safety features that come as standard with the Niro EV in our market. As you may expect, Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) is a standard for the EV alongside Electronic Brake-Force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Traction Control System (TCS), Hill-start Assist Control (HAC), and Auto Hold.
In addition to that, there are also seven airbags throughout the EV as well as Safe Exit Assist (SEA) and Tire-Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). For owners with young kids, Niro EV is equipped with ISOFIX anchor points and Child Lock as standard and there is also the useful Rear Occupant Alert.
Of course, we can’t forget about the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) on the new Niro EV. Right off the bat, the ADAS includes features such as the Stop & Go Smart Cruise Control (SCC), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), and Lane Following Assist (LFA) which means that the EV has Level 2 driving automation.
The system also provides other useful advanced safety features including the Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist with Junction Turning, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist, Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist, and High Beam Assist. There is also the Driver Attention Warning which can be highly useful for long journeys.

Niro EV price for Malaysia
For now, there is still one key point still missing from Kia Malaysia’s website which is the local pricing of Niro EV. That being said, we have been hearing rumours of a price range between RM240,000 to RM260,000 for the new model.
Since Niro EV will be making its public debut in Malaysia this coming Thursday at Pavilion Bukit Jalil, expect the official price to be revealed very soon. So, stay tuned as we will keep you updated once we obtain more details regarding the new EV from Kia Malaysia.
