According to a report by Bloomberg, Spotify is currently planning on a more expensive subscription option as part of its plan to increase subscription revenue. Internally, the new plan is called Supremium which will be costlier than the current Spotify Premium option.
It was reported that the plan will be the most expensive option from Spotify which will provide a HiFi feature, which was first announced in 2021. Two years on, Spotify HiFi is still not launched yet. The new HiFi option would be great for audio enthusiasts who want to enjoy lossless audio streaming quality. It is said that the new premium tier is expected to launch this year outside of the United States first. At the moment, competitors Amazon Music and Apple Music are offering higher-quality lossless audio streaming for free as part of their standard offering.
At the moment, Spotify users on the ad-supported free tier can stream at AAC 128kbit/s on web player or an equivalent of up to 160kbit/s on a mobile device depending on the quality of the connection. Meanwhile, users on Spotify Premium can enjoy up to AAC 256kbit/s on a web player and an equivalent of up to approximately 320kbit/s on a mobile device.
In Malaysia, a Spotify Premium subscription currently costs RM14.90/month while a Family Plan that allows up to 6 accounts costs RM23.80/month. There are cheaper options such as a daily RM0.75/day option and also a duo-account which costs RM19.80/month.
