If case you’ve forgotten, Asus is still making its Zenfone lineup which is now focused on making compact Android smartphones. Ahead of its global release, serial leakster Evan Blass has dropped high-quality resolution renders of the Asus Zenfone 10 and it looks like a minor refresh of last year’s model.
For the Zenfone 10, Asus is offering a total of five colours which include a new green colour option. Similar to its predecessor, it gets a flat slab design with a metal frame that comes in either silver (for the white) or dark grey (all other colours). The rear gets a clean design with two massive round camera bumps. This time, they have removed the tactical-looking design elements and have gone for a simpler “Asus Zenfone” label below the camera bump. In the bottom right corner, the phone carries Asus’ new Star Trek-inspired logo.
In terms of specs, the Zenfone 10 is expected to retain a similar 5.9″ Full HD+ AMOLED display as the Zenfone 9 and it will run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. The biggest speculated upgrade is the battery with the capacity being bumped from 4,300mAh to 5,000mAh and this time it would support wireless charging. Being a flagship-class device, you can also expect stereo speakers and IP68-rated dust and water resistance. As confirmed in its teaser video, the camera boasts greater video recording stability with its 6-axis hybrid gimbal stabilisation feature.
Similar to the last compact device, the Zenfone 10 appears to retain a ZenTouch feature for its home button. Besides being a fingerprint sensor, it also functions as a mini touchpad that lets you swipe up and down to open notifications, browse through pages or for media controls. The Zenfone 9 came with a 3.5mm headphone jack but it isn’t clear if it will be included on this latest model.
Overall, this seems like the perfect Android alternative to iPhone’s mini series. Unfortunately, it looks like the new Zenfone 10 like its predecessor won’t be coming to Malaysia officially anytime soon. Asus Malaysia seems to be focused on its gaming-focused ROG series and its latest device is the ROG Phone 7 that’s priced from RM3,599. The last Zenfone flagships were the Zenfone 8 and Zenfone 8 Flip released in 2021.
The ZenFone 10 launch is happening at 9pm (local time) on 29th June 2023.
